BOULDER, Colo. (AP) - A pit bull that was shot in July is scheduled to undergo more surgery Monday but is otherwise doing well.

The Daily Times-Call reports (https://bit.ly/1UZuFMV ) that Beefcakes will have pieces of broken teeth removed from his jaw next week. Doctors have already successfully removed the bullet that injured him July 7.

Boulder County sheriff’s deputies say Beefcakes was shot after the dog got into a fight and caused injuries to a Chihuahua owned by Russell Middleton’s girlfriend.

Middleton is charged with aggravated cruelty to animals, among other charges. He is scheduled appear in Boulder County Court on Oct. 15.

Officials at the Longmont Humane Society say Beefcakes is living with a foster family and that they hope to put him up for adoption once he recovers.
