LAUSANNE, Switzerland (AP) - The Court of Arbitration for Sports has dismissed the appeal of Hatem Ben Arfa against FIFA’s decision to prevent him from playing for Nice last season.

Ben Arfa joined Nice in January but FIFA refused to give him clearance to play for the French club because of a rule stipulating that a player cannot appear for more than two clubs in the same season. Before signing with Nice, Ben Arfa had played for Newcastle in an under-21 match then for Hull in the Premier League.

CAS said Ben Arfa “did not have standing to challenge the FIFA Decision” and added that he did not prove how the “annulment of the FIFA Decision would impact him financially or sportingly.”

Ben Arfa finally completed his move to Nice in June.
