ROCK FALLS, Iowa (AP) - A covered bridge in a northern Iowa park has been closed after an inspection raised questions about its safety.

The Mason City Globe Gazette reports (https://bit.ly/1FlAmO4 ) the Cerro Gordo County Conservation Board on Thursday closed the bright red covered bridge in Wilkinson Pioneer Park near Rock Falls.

The board took the action after an engineer completed an annual inspection of the span.

The bridge will remain closed until a more detailed report is completed and the board determines the cost of needed repairs.

The bridge was originally built in 1969 but burned in a 1997 fire. It was rebuilt in 1998. Volunteers built the bridge both times.
