MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (AP) - Greg Babe has been named to the West Virginia University Board of Governors.

Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin announced Babe’s appointment Thursday. He replaces Drew Payne, whose term expired.

The New Martinsville native earned a mechanical engineering degree from WVU in 1980. He’s the board chairman of the Mid-Atlantic Technology, Research and Innovation Center and is president and CEO of Liquid X, a Pittsburgh-based technology company.

Previously he served as CEO of Orbital Engineering and also was president and CEO of Bayer Corp. and Bayer MaterialScience.

The WVU Board of Governors has 17 members. A dozen are appointed by the governor and can serve two consecutive four-year terms. The others represent students, faculty and staff of the university as well as the West Virginia University Institute of Technology.
