Jeb Bush explained that he was simply looking for his wife of 42 years when he was caught standing on his tiptoes more than once during a group photo op before Wednesday night’s GOP debate.

On Thursday morning, the 6-foot-3-inch former Florida governor addressed suspicions that he was trying to make himself look taller than Donald Trump.

“Were you looking for someone?” Fox News’ Bill Hemmer asked Mr. Bush, Talking Points Memo reported. “Or were you looking to be a little taller than the guy there at your right?”

“I was looking over to the press to see where my wife was sitting because she’s the love of my life and just I need to have eye contact with her before we started,” Mr. Bush explained. “[When] you’ve been married 42 years, that’s the kind of thing you do.”

The Daily Mail reported that Mr. Bush was caught by cameras at least twice rolling onto his tiptoes and “stretching his arms a bit to take up more room than his fellow candidates.”
