HUTTO, Texas (AP) - A 26-year-old Austin man has been indicted on a first-degree murder charge in the death of a Williamson County police officer.

Colby Ray Williamson was indicted Thursday in the death of 38-year-old Hutto police Sgt. Christopher Kelley. Authorities say on June 24, Hutto police attempted to pull Williamson over when he fled and crashed a vehicle into a fire hydrant. Police say Williamson ran away, but Kelley found him and tried to handcuff him.

According to authorities, the two men struggled before Williamson took control of Kelley’s patrol car and ran over the officer.

Williamson had been initially charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon on a peace officer.

Williamson’s attorney, Russell Hunt, said his client did not intentionally try to kill the officer and feels terrible about the killing.
