DOWNEY, Calif. (AP) - Authorities say a gunman who was killed by Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies after he held hostages inside a restaurant had been named a person of interest in a woman’s shooting death.

The Los Angeles Times reports (https://lat.ms/1imz8Yk) 41-year-old Eddie Tapia was fatally shot during the restaurant standoff Sept. 10. He had led deputies on a chase before running into the restaurant and holding at least four hostages.

Investigators say Tapia was being investigated in the death of 46-year-old Rocio Vasquez, whose body was found inside a burned home in east Los Angeles. An autopsy determined the woman died from a gunshot wound.

Detectives hadn’t yet questioned Tapia in the case. Deputies say he knew Vasquez and would often visit her home.

The woman’s death is still being investigated.
