ROCKY MOUNT, Va. (AP) - A pipeline developer is suing a landowner to gain access to a mountain in Franklin County to conduct a route survey.

Occanneechi Inc. is an apple farm that owns most of Cahas Mountain. Mountain Valley Pipeline is seeking an injunction to prevent Occanneechi from interfering with its surveying work.

Company spokeswoman Natalie Cox tells The Roanoke (https://bit.ly/1NBhD2f ) Times that Virginia law allows natural gas companies to conduct property surveys.

Serina Garst’s family owns Occanneechi. She says the family wanted to discuss the surveying work with the company but it didn’t respond to her letters and phone calls.

The company filed the lawsuit last week in Franklin County Circuit Court.

The proposed pipeline would transport natural gas from Wetzel County, West Virginia, to another transmission pipeline in Pittsylvania County.
