BALTIMORE (AP) - Police say a woman was found dead after a northeast Baltimore apartment fire that’s being investigated as arson.

The fire broke out around 3:30 a.m. Friday in a garden-style apartment building on Frankford Avenue.

Police spokesman T.J. Smith says the woman was found dead in an apartment and seven other people escaped the building with injuries ranging from cuts to broken bones. Police did not immediately identify the woman who was killed.

Smith says investigators found evidence that made it “apparent and obvious” that the fire was intentionally set. He says police are asking for help identifying the person who set the fire.

Smith says 10 of the 12 apartments in the building were leased. The American Red Cross is helping residents displaced by the fire.
