PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) - The Portland Bureau of Transportation has found bike commuting spiked to 7.2 percent last year.
KATU-TV reports (https://goo.gl/8TScpa ) that according to a report published by the U.S. Census Bureau, 23,347 Portland residents commuted to work by bike in 2014, an increase of 27 percent - or 5,010 commuters - from 2013.
Portland’s bike commuting rate was only at 2.8 percent in 2004.
Portland Transportation Director Leah Treat says the increase in bike commuting is due to investment in projects to make biking safer in the city as well as encouraging people to try biking.
