PASCAGOULA, Miss. (AP) - Volunteer registration for the 27th annual Mississippi Coastal Cleanup is now open.

The Mississippi Marine Debris Task Force says groups and individuals are invited to help clean up at any one of more than 55 sites along the coast. Volunteers may register to clean up sites in Harrison, Hancock and Jackson counties, as well as the barrier islands.

The Mississippi Press reports (https://bit.ly/1Qls2yk ) last year, more than 1,600 volunteers cleaned up 47 areas along 90 miles of Mississippi’s coastal waterways, picking up 7.5 tons of trash and marine debris.

Online registration for this year’s event will be open through Oct. 15. To register or get more information, visit www.mscoastalcleanup.

This year’s event will be held from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Oct. 17.
