BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - An inmate on work release walked off the job at a Baton Rouge lumber yard and is being sought by East Baton Rouge Parish deputies.

Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Casey Rayborn Hicks said in a news release Thursday that 24-year-old Damarkius Spears was last seen Wednesday evening at 84 Lumber.

Hicks says an employee at the lumber yard reported that Spears was wearing a black shirt, black pants and brown boots.

Pam Laborde, a state Department of Corrections spokeswoman, says Spears had been convicted of distributing marijuana in 2007.
