AUGUSTA, Maine (AP) - Authorities say 21 men are facing misdemeanor charges of engaging a prostitute after an investigation at three central Maine hotels.

The Kennebec Journal reports (https://bit.ly/1OG1QAa ) that the six-week investigation involved advertisements placed on Internet and social media pages.

Authorities say each of the men responded to an ad on the Internet or social media and went to a hotel in Waterville or Augusta expecting to pay for sex but were arrested.

An Augusta defense attorney who has been contacted by at least two of the men charged is questioning the amount of time and money that went into the investigation that resulted in 21 misdemeanor charges.
