PRINCE FREDERICK, Md. (AP) — Three children were badly burned and airlifted to a local hospital after a boat exploded then caught fire on a creek in Calvert County.

The 20-foot Wellcraft recreational boat caught fire on Mill Creek in Lusby just after the boat launched at about 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, The Washington Post reported. There were five people on board. The boat burned down to the water line.

Three children, ages 3, 8 and 9, were rushed to the hospital, two with severe burns.

Maryland Natural Resources Police spokeswoman Candy Thomson said the cause of the explosion is still under investigation.
