RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - An advanced emergency management academy will be held in Richmond beginning this fall.

The Virginia Department of Emergency Management says the four-course series for the national Emergency Management Institute will be held at VDEM headquarters over the next several months, starting Nov. 16.

The department says the courses are designed for emerging leaders and mid-level managers who want to advance their emergency management skills. They are geared toward government, nonprofit groups and private sector managers responsible for emergency management or homeland security.

Applications are due no later than Oct. 5 for VDEM employees and Oct. 12 for others.
