CLEVELAND, Tenn. (AP) - The city of Cleveland has named a new police chief.

Media reports say Mark Gibson will take over as the city’s Chief of Police on Monday. He will take his official oath of office on Sept. 28.

Gibson was named interim chief when former Chief of Police Dennis Maddux retired earlier this year. An internal affairs investigation had found Maddux lied after he was caught in a car with an officer’s wife.

Officials said the city received 36 applications for the job. Finalists also included Capt. Jessie Brooks of the Tennessee Highway Patrol and Red Bank Police Chief Tim Christol.
