JOLIET, Ill. (AP) - A suburban Chicago man has been convicted of killing his wife by ramming her with a car and then stomping on her head.

Will County State’s Attorney James Glasgow says a jury on Friday found 64-year-old Jerry Nichols guilty of first-degree murder in the 2013 death of Diane Nichols.

Prosecutors say Nichols rammed his wife twice with her own car into the rear wall of the couple’s garage with a force great enough to crack studs.

They say he then stomped on his wife’s head while she was on the floor, fracturing her jaw and skull and damaging cartilage in her throat.

They say Nichols made a 911 call to falsely report the death as an accident.

He faces up to 60 years in prison when he’s sentenced in December.
