DOVER, Del. (AP) - Marcus Hampton ran for 121 yards and a touchdown and Division II member Chowan beat Delaware State 31-30 on Saturday for the program’s first win over a Division I opponent.

Delaware State (0-3) scored two fourth-quarter touchdowns, including Kamal Abrams’ one-handed catch with 59 seconds left, but punter Jeremiah McGeough missed the extra point. Hornets kicker Wisdom Nzidee was unavailable due to cramping.

Chowan (2-1) raced to a 21-0 lead on a 3-yard touchdown run by Tyree Lee and a pair of scoring passes from Randall Dixon - of 11 yards to Anthony Elliott and 23 yards to Kaine Lombard.

Dixon was picked off by Ronald Robinson and he returned it 58 yards for touchdown to get Delaware State on the board. Late in the second quarter, Esayah Obado found Malik Golson from 13 yards out to pull within 21-14.

Chowan responded with 10 third-quarter points, including Hampton’s 1-yard plunge following a Torrel Saffold interception.
