EAST LANSING, Mich. (AP) - Police in East Lansing are dangling a tempting reward in a college town: up to $500 for a solid tip that solves illegal street fires.

WILX-TV (https://bit.ly/1ip0CfK ) says there have been at least seven illegal fires after Michigan State football games. Lt. Scott Wriggelsworth says they’re dangerous to people who set them and the firefighters who put them out.

He says a couch fire in the street also prevents firefighters and paramedics from handling other emergencies.

MSU student Kyle Cameron says a cash reward might not be the solution to stopping fires. He says authorities need to learn why people “feel the need to burn couches.”

Another student, Christian Prseslawski, says people with information may be reluctant to blow the whistle on a friend.
