GOULDSBORO, Maine (AP) - Maine’s wineries are opening their doors to invite the public to experience the joys of fermented fruit.

The Maine Winery Guild is holding its fourth annual Open Winery Day on Saturday. The guild represents two dozen wineries in Maine and is the sponsor of the Maine Wine Trail.

The wineries are preparing special events for the day that will include tours, tastings and more. Fat Friar’s Meadery in Newcastle is putting on a medieval regalia while Bartlett Estate Winery in Gouldsboro will have brick oven pizza on its patio.

The Maine Winery Guild has existed since 2008 and promotes Maine wine, fruit wine, mead, cider and spirits.
