HENDERSON, Nev. (AP) - Nevada State College President Bart Patterson plans to mark the opening of two new buildings during his upcoming state-of-the-campus speech.

School officials say Patterson also plans to talk next Thursday about recent accomplishments, his vision for the future and upcoming campus events.

Opening the 60,000-square-foot buildings triples the size of the campus and allows for consolidation of operations previously split between downtown Henderson and the 500-acre campus on Nevada State Drive.

The $54 million construction project took 18 months to complete.

Construction was funded through fees approved by student government, private donations and repurposed lease payments.

Nevada State College was established in 2002 as a new tier in the Nevada System of Higher Education.

It now serves about 3,500 students and offers more than 45 major and minor degrees.
