HONOLULU (AP) - Honolulu police say they have found an officer’s SUV after it was stolen overnight.

KHON-TV reports (https://bit.ly/1KrQr0C ) that a Honolulu police officer’s private vehicle was stolen sometime late Thursday or early Friday. It was parked on the street.

Police say the SUV was found Friday morning and contained some of the officer’s gear. There were uniforms and other equipment, which could include the officer’s radio, vest, badge, ammunition and handcuffs.

His gun was not in the SUV.

Honolulu police say it’s unusual for a police officer’s vehicle and equipment to be stolen.

Hawaii state police union president Tenari Maafala says officers should clear out their cars when they are home.

But Maafala says police may sometimes need to have equipment readily available in case there is an emergency.
