AURORA, Ill. (AP) - Police in Aurora say they’ve tentatively identified the body of a woman found in the woods along Interstate 88.

Fifty-four-year-old Sandra Jefferson’s family reported her missing on Sept. 3, saying she was last seen that day in Lombard. Jefferson was from Berwyn.

Illinois Department of Transportation mowing crews found the body Thursday afternoon along with a blue Nissan SUV about 200 yards away that police later determined belonged to Jefferson.

A written statement from the Aurora Police Department says a definitive identification will have to wait until DNA tests are finished because the body was badly decomposed.

A preliminary autopsy on Friday did not determine how she died, but there were no signs of trauma to the body.
