LAWRENCE, Miss. (AP) - Investigators in Newton County are trying to determine what started a house fire that killed a man and sent two firefighters to the hospital.

The Meridian Star reports (https://bit.ly/1KFemhV ) that the body of 19-year-old Anthony Edward McCune was sent to Jackson for an autopsy.

McCune, who wore braces on his legs, died in the fire Sunday in the Lawrence community. His mother, Julie McCune, says she made several attempts to save him.

His aunt, Connie McCune, was also at the house when the fire started. She says there was a strong smell of chemicals, but she doesn’t know the source of the smell.
