OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - Five Republicans and two Democrats are running for a Tulsa-area state Senate seat left open by a former senator who pleaded guilty to federal charges.

The three-day filing period for the District 34 seat in northeast Tulsa County ended Wednesday.

Filing Wednesday for the Republican nomination were Greg Douglass of Owasso, David McLain of Skiatook and Chuck Daugherty of Collinsville. Two Democrats also filed for the post - J.J. Dossett of Sperry and Lisa Franklin of Owasso.

Republicans Mark Williams and John Ferry of Owasso filed on Monday.

A primary election will be Nov. 10 and the general election on Jan. 12.

The seven are seeking to replace Republican former Sen. Rick Brinkley - who pleaded guilty in August to wire fraud and filing a false tax return.
