CASPER, Wyo. (AP) - A Casper woman has been sentenced to up to three years in prison for attacking her boyfriend with a knife in June 2014.

The Casper Star-Tribune reports (https://bit.ly/1JxsoxR ) that 43-year-old Cathy Long was sentenced Tuesday to one-and-a-half to three years in prison for aggravated assault.

Long originally pleaded not guilty by reason of mental illness and underwent a competency evaluation at the Wyoming State Hospital. She changed her plea to guilty earlier this year.

Prosecutors say Long and her boyfriend were arguing after he found out his friend had died of cancer. He went outside to be away from here, but she followed him outside, chased him with a knife and tried to kick him before stabbing him in the chest.
