TRAVERSE CITY, Mich. (AP) - The U.S. Coast Guard is scheduled to conduct an annual, live fire-fighting training exercise in northern Michigan’s Traverse City.

It will be held Wednesday at Coast Guard Air Station Traverse City.

A simulation aircraft rigged to create controlled fires for practice putting out aircraft fires will be used as part of the training.

Cherry Capital Airport and the Traverse City Fire Department are partnering with the coast guard on the exercise. Officials say the training keeps the local airport and fire department qualified and ready to assist in the event of such an emergency.
