SPEARFISH, S.D. (AP) - A motorist was hurt and two horses were killed after the animals got loose on Interstate 90 in western South Dakota.

The Black Hills Pioneer reports (https://bit.ly/1UmnRbV ) that the incident happened early Saturday. The Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office says a 22-year-old man from Casper, Wyoming, suffered a broken jaw when his vehicle collided with one of the horses.

The man’s vehicle went into the ditch, through a fence and into a pond.

The second horse is believed to have been struck by a semitrailer shortly after the first horse was killed, but authorities did not immediately locate the semi.
