BILOXI, Miss. (AP) - A Harrison County grand jury has indicted a high number of defendants as habitual offenders and recommended others qualify for enhanced penalties if convicted.

The Sun Herald reports (https://bit.ly/1hxvSJ0) the February term of the grand jury for the Second Judicial District of Harrison County ended its six-month term by returning 26 indictments for defendants who have three or more felony convictions. If convicted, they face prison terms without eligibility for early release.

The grand jury also recommended 26 defendants be considered for a double prison term or other enhanced penalties.

Crimes for those types of enhancements include selling drugs near a public park or school and having a gun during illicit drug activity.
