NEOGA, Ill. (AP) - Authorities in eastern Illinois are investigating the death of an infant who drowned in a bathtub last week.

Coles County Coroner Ed Schniers says said an ambulance took the 1-year-old girl from a babysitter’s residence in Neoga to the hospital where she was pronounced dead Thursday evening.

The Journal Gazette & Times-Courier (https://bit.ly/1hyWsl3) reports Schniers says the drowning appears to have been an accident but the Illinois State Police are investigating as a precaution.

He says authorities are waiting on final laboratory results from the autopsy before declaring an official cause of death.
