LOS ANGELES (AP) - Authorities say a Los Angeles firefighter is recovering after being stabbed by a patient he had taken to a Boyle Heights hospital.

Assistant Fire Chief Mark Storms says the 38-year-old firefighter was attacked with a knife Tuesday night in the emergency room at White Memorial Hospital.

Storms tells City News Service that two hospital staffers suffered minor injuries while trying to subdue the suspect after the stabbing.

The firefighter, who has not been named, was hospitalized in stable condition with injuries to an arm.

Forty-six-year-old Christopher Clay was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon. He is being held on $50,000 bail.

It wasn’t immediately known if he has a lawyer.
