LOS ANGELES (AP) - Prosecutors have filed a felony charge against a 31-year-old man accused of pointing a laser at a Los Angeles County sheriff’s helicopter during a training exercise.

The district attorney’s office said Wednesday that Christopher Cooper is charged with a single count of discharge of a laser at an aircraft.

The alleged incident occurred Aug. 11 in Agoura Hills. Sheriff’s officials said the flight crew notified patrol deputies that a laser had been pointed at the helicopter from the ground.

Deputies were directed to a home, where they arrested two people, including Cooper. The other person wasn’t charged.

Attempts to reach Cooper for comment were not successful.

Prosecutors say he faces up to 10 years in prison if convicted.
