PHOENIX (AP) - A man has been sentenced to nine years in federal prison for stabbing a man at a home on the Gila River Indian Community in early 2014.

Four months ago, a jury found 38-year-old Kenneth Wayne Morgan Jr. of Blackwater, Arizona, guilty of assault resulting in bodily injury.

Authorities say Morgan stabbed the man in the head.

Morgan’s lawyer tells U.S. District Judge Murray Snow that he plans to appeal the conviction.
