PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) - Monica Wehby has taken herself out of the race for Oregon governor just days after saying she was considering a run.

The Republican neurosurgeon from Portland said Wednesday that she wants to focus on her medical practice.

In a statement to the Oregonian (https://bit.ly/1LMd4jU ), Wehby says she’ll continue promoting her political action committee, MonicaPAC. The group promotes conservative candidates and causes in Oregon.

Wehby’s move comes less than a week after an adviser revealed that she was considering a campaign for governor.

Wehby was the Republican nominee for U.S. Senate last year but lost handily to Democratic incumbent Jeff Merkley.

Democratic Gov. Kate Brown, who was elevated to the job when John Kitzhaber resigned in February, is widely expected to run. Salem oncologist Bud Pierce has announced a campaign for the Republican nomination.
