AKRON, Ohio (AP) - Police believe a 35-year-old northeast Ohio man injured in a drive-by shooting at Akron’s Central Interchange was specifically targeted in the assault.

The Akron Beacon Journal reports (https://bit.ly/1N91BxY ) the shooting occurred on the northbound entrance ramp from Interstate 76 to state Route 8 around 3:20 a.m. Tuesday.

Police say the victim, a Barberton resident, was shot in the leg as he was driving to work. He is cooperating with authorities to determine a motive in the attack.

A witness told police he saw a dark-colored sport utility vehicle pull up alongside the victim’s car and fire multiple shots before exiting the highway at Perkins Street.

The victim was transported to Summa Akron City Hospital for treatment.

Police say they have no description of the gunman. The shooting remains under investigation.
