LAFAYETTE, Ind. (AP) - Police say a motorist who led officers on a pursuit crashed in an Interstate 65 construction zone where crews are repairing a closed northern Indiana bridge.

The Tippecanoe County Sheriff’s office says the driver crashed into a concrete barrier at the closed Wildcat Creek bridge Tuesday night, seriously injuring the car’s three occupants.

Police said the pursuit began in Frankfort after police tried to pull the car over, but the driver took off.

WLFI-TV reports (https://bit.ly/1hxWhqk ) that police pursued the car as it drove onto I-65’s northbound lanes using the closed State Road 38 on-ramp.

Tippecanoe County deputies alerted a construction crew that’s repairing the bridge over Wildcat Creek before that car crashed. The bridge was closed last month and detours imposed after crews noticed it was shifting and sinking.
