HOUMA, La. (AP) - The Terrebonne Parish School Board has decided to use proceeds from the BP oil spill settlement on future construction projects.

The Courier reports (https://bit.ly/1Q885LH) schools Superintendent Philip Martin said Tuesday night the district is getting $7.7 million after legal expenses.

Board President Roosevelt Thomas said he hoped the district would use the money to undertake projects with significant heft.

Board member L.P. Bordelon said he’d like to see long-lasting construction emerge from the money.
