BRENTWOOD, N.H. (AP) - The trial has been delayed for a New Hampshire man charged with punching his 3-month-old son and breaking several bones.

The Portsmouth Herald reports (https://bit.ly/1O7NLcc ) 25-year-old Jose Orta-Santana of Newmarket is facing charges of first- and second-degree assault. His trial was scheduled for Sept. 8 but will be delayed until at least Oct. 9.

Police were notified in March after Boston Children’s Hospital treated the child for a fractured skull and found 17 broken bones.

Police say Orta-Santana initially denied causing the injuries but then admitted holding the infant with one arm while punching him in the head and throwing him on the bed out of frustration with the baby’s crying.

Orta-Santana has indicated he will use an insanity defense. He’s being held in county jail on $100,000 bail.
