NEW HAVEN, Conn. (AP) - A New Haven woman has been sentenced to five years in prison for a crash that left a man with a traumatic brain injury.

The New Haven Register reports (https://bit.ly/1hx0JW9 ) 24-year-old Daniella Fox apologized to the victim, 42-year-old Kevin Shea, at her sentencing hearing Tuesday.

Shea was riding his motorcycle near the intersection of Concord and Myron streets in July 2013 when police said Fox drove into the intersection from the wrong way of a one-way street, striking Shea and causing him to fly about 30 feet into the air.

Police said Fox was intoxicated and under the influence of opiates and oxycodone.

Shea says he endured about 12 surgeries after the crash and is now “handicapped for life.”

Fox’s attorneys said she had no intent to harm anyone.
