PATERSON, N.J. (AP) - Two people were critically injured in separate street shootings in Paterson, the latest incidents in a violent weekend in the northern New Jersey community.

Both shootings occurred early Sunday and both victims were city residents.

Authorities say 38-year-old woman who had been shot “multiple times” was found in the area of 18th Avenue and East 33rd Street. The other shooting occurred on North Main Street, where a 35-year-old man was shot in the back by an unknown person who had approached him on foot.

Both victims were hospitalized in critical condition. But further details on their injuries were not disclosed.

Motives for both shootings remain under investigation.

The violence came one day after one man was killed and another was wounded in a shooting on Auburn Street.
