BOSTON (AP) - Environmental activists are riding from Bar Harbor in Maine to Boston.

Climate Ride bills itself as the first charity bike-a-thon to support environmental and cycling-related issues.

Participants in the five-day, 390-mile ride set off from Bar Harbor Thursday and are expected to reach Boston by Monday.

The first time event hopes to raise $400,000 for over 100 sustainability, cycling advocacy, active transportation and environmental causes.

The ride includes up to 300 cyclists ranging in age from 12 to 80 and hailing from across country, the organization says. All riders had to raise at least $2,800 by Sept. 11 to participate.

Climate Ride started in 2008 as a five-day bike ride from New York City to Washington, D.C. and has raised and granted over $2 million to causes.
