GRAFTON, Ill. (AP) - The police chief in the southwestern Illinois community of Grafton is leaving his post to take the same job about 150 miles north in Aledo.

The (Alton) Telegraph (https://bit.ly/1QR8Jh1 ) reports that Chris Sullivan says his new job is closer to the home of his parents and presented him a “good opportunity.”

Sullivan is from Kewanee, which is about an hour away from Aledo. He spent several years in the Alton Police Department and was the chief between 2002 and when he retired from the force in 2009. He joined the department in Grafton in 2011 and became the chief a short time later.

Sullivan’s last day as chief in Grafton will be Sept. 27. The city has not yet named another chief.
