POINT PLEASANT, W.Va. (AP) - Police have identified a man who drowned in the Ohio River at the annual Mothman Festival in Point Pleasant.

Point Pleasant police say 59-year-old James Grueser of Letart jumped into the Ohio River from Riverfront Park around 11 a.m. Saturday. His body was recovered about two hours later.

Police say Grueser’s death was an accident.

The annual festival celebrates the legend of Mothman, a mysterious creature with glowing red eyes that witnesses described seeing in 1966 and 1967. It was the subject of the 2002 film “The Mothman Prophecies.”
