NEW YORK (AP) - A Transportation Security Administration screener has been accused of stealing $61 from a man’s wallet at a Kennedy Airport security checkpoint.

Port Authority spokesman Joe Pentangelo says the 26-year-old victim had placed his wallet in a bin during routine screening. When he retrieved it he noticed the money was gone.

It happened at about 10 p.m. Saturday.

Port Authority police began an investigation and Pentangelo says photographic evidence revealed that a uniformed TSA screener was responsible for the theft.

Pentangelo says 37-year-old Joe Bangay, of Queens, was arrested on charges of criminal possession of stolen property and larceny. It wasn’t clear if he had a lawyer.

Earlier this month, a TSA screener was charged with stealing a passenger’s $7,000 diamond watch from a plastic bin at Kennedy Airport.
