OGDEN, Utah (AP) - A 13-year-old girl is recovering after she was accidentally shot in the neck by her 11-year-old sister in Ogden.

The Ogden City Police Department says the younger girl accidentally fired a .22 caliber revolver Sunday. She found the weapon in their grandparents’ bedroom while cleaning.

Ogden Police Lt. Jake Sube says a bullet struck the 13-year-old in the neck but didn’t hit any vital organs. He says she has been hospitalized and will likely have surgery to remove the bullet.

He described her as having a “very positive attitude.”

Sube says the elderly grandparents probably had not used the gun in many years and forgot it was in the bedroom.

No arrests were made Sunday. Police say the investigation is ongoing.
