LAKEWOOD, Colo. (AP) - Lakewood authorities say a 2-year-old boy has died after he was found unconscious with a cord or string wrapped around his neck.

Police spokesman Steve Davis says the boy was found in an apartment Monday and was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Davis says police are investigating but don’t know whether the incident was an accident or a crime.

Police say the boy was reported missing from the apartment shortly after noon. He was found after officers and family members searched the area and the apartment. He was pronounced dead at about 2 p.m.

Police say the boy’s mother and two or three other adults were in the apartment.

No other information was immediately released.
