GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (AP) - Aquinas College plans to build a chapel as the centerpiece of the Catholic school’s 117-acre campus.

An event to bless the ground where the chapel will stand is Saturday. Details including architect, the chapel’s name and fundraising details will be announced at the event.

The school says the symbolism of the chapel’s placement is to keep faith and reason centered. The chapel will be built at the intersection of Wege Way and Elderberry Lane, ensuring that all members of the campus community are in close proximity.

The plans mark the first time in the school’s history that a campus building will be built with the intent of being a chapel. The current chapel, Bukowski Chapel, was the original stables for the Holmdene Estate and later was transformed into a chapel.
