NEW HAVEN, Conn. (AP) - Federal prosecutors say a Connecticut man charged with robbing a bank earlier this month is a suspect in five other holdups and an attempted robbery at other banks.

Prosecutors and FBI officials said Monday that 31-year-old Matthew Dragone of Middletown was charged last week with robbing a Liberty Bank in Durham on Sept. 3. Authorities say he made off with nearly $1,500 after handing a teller a bag with a note demanding money.

Dragone appeared Monday before a U.S. magistrate in federal court in New Haven and remains detained. His public defender didn’t immediately return messages seeking comment.

Authorities say Dragone also is a suspect in bank robberies in Cheshire, Berlin, Deep River, Wethersfield and Killingworth and an attempted robbery in Rocky Hill. Those robberies remain under investigation.
