CRANSTON, R.I. (AP) - Police say a Rhode Island police officer was hospitalized after a collision with a pickup.

Police say two fire trucks and the officer’s Cranston police cruiser were responding to a call around 2:15 p.m. Sunday when the accident occurred.

Police tell WPRI-TV the fire trucks cleared the intersection, but the cruiser behind them was hit by the truck.

The officer’s identity was not immediately available but WLNE-TV reports he was transported to Rhode Island Hospital with non-life threatening neck and back injuries. He has been released.

The driver of the pickup truck was not injured.

The crash appears to be accidental.
