WILLISTON, N.D. (AP) - Construction of a $5.3 million fire department substation is under way in Williston.

The Williston Herald reports (https://bit.ly/1LCPbZt ) that city officials and firefighters broke ground on the site last week.

The department in the oil patch city now covers an area the size of Bismarck, which is North Dakota’s second-largest city. Bismarck has five fire stations. Williston has one.

Officials say firefighters responded to twice as many calls in 2014 as they did in 2013.
